Travelling Abroad for Revision Breast Surgery: A Practical Checklist

Every year, large numbers of patients from the UK, Ireland, North America and Northern Europe travel abroad for breast surgery — including revisions. Done well, it combines experienced surgeons with substantial savings. Done carelessly, it adds risk. Here is a practical, honest checklist for planning revision breast surgery abroad.

Before you book anything

  • Gather what you know about your first surgery. The operation note is ideal, but even the year, the country, the technique (if you know it) and whether implants were used all help your new surgeon plan safely around the existing blood supply.
  • Verify the surgeon, not the clinic's marketing. Look for a fully qualified plastic & reconstructive surgeon with verifiable board certification (for example FACS or a European board), and ask specifically about their experience with revision breast surgery.
  • Insist on a real assessment. A trustworthy surgeon will review your photos and history personally and tell you what's realistically achievable — including whether they'd advise waiting. Be wary of instant "yes" answers and package prices quoted before anyone has looked at your case.
  • Get the quote in writing, all-inclusive. It should state what's covered: surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, garments, follow-up and transfers.

Planning the trip itself

  • Allow enough time. For most revision breast lifts, a stay of around 5–7 days covers surgery, early recovery and a check before flying. Don't compress this to save a hotel night.
  • Check entry requirements. Travellers from the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Germany and the Nordic countries can generally enter Türkiye visa-free for short stays — but rules change, so check officially before you travel.
  • Bring the practical things: your documents and any surgical records, regular medicines in original packaging, and front-opening tops that don't require lifting your arms.
  • Arrange a companion if you can. Not essential, but a familiar face makes the first days easier.

After you fly home

The result of a revision matures over months, so aftercare is part of the product you're buying. Before committing, confirm exactly how follow-up works from your country: who you contact, how quickly they respond, and what happens if you have a concern. A surgeon who stays reachable after you land is not a bonus — it should be a requirement.

The short version: verify credentials, share your surgical history, get an honest personal assessment and a written all-inclusive quote, allow a proper stay, and confirm the aftercare pathway before you book. Value abroad is real — but it follows preparation.
